New York Cabaret Convention – October 18-21, 2016

The Mabel Mercer Foundation presents the New York Cabaret Convention annually and in the Foundation’s 32nd anniversary year returns to the Rose Theater at Jazz At Lincoln Center. Since its inception in 1989, the Convention has hosted more than a thousand performers, all of whom work in their own ways to keep alive the tradition of cabaret in this country and abroad.

Saluting Sheldon Harnick and Charles Strouse, hosted by Klea Blackhurst. With Corinna Sowers-Adler, Broadway by the Year Chorus, Eric Comstock, Scott Coulter, Robert Creighton, Joshua Dixon, Shana Farr, Liam Forde, Penny Fuller, Zoe Gelman, Anita Gillette, Valerie Lemon, Stearns Matthews, Marieann Meringolo, Todd Murray, Liz Robertson, Shawn Ryan, Lauren Stanford, Joanne Tatham, and Amra-Faye Wright.

Alix Cohen writes, “On a completely different octave spectrum, Corinna Sowers Adler is equally enchanting with “Ice Cream” (Sheldon Harnick/Jerry Bock from She Loves Me). The vocalist’s pristine soprano is aided and abetted by charming enactment of the confused character. And oh the frisson of that last note! (Alex Rybeck-Piano)”

Lucy Komisar says in the Komisar Scoop, “Corinna Sowers Adler did one of my favorites, “Dear Friend,” the vanilla ice cream song from Harnick’s “She Loves Me.” With a lovely soprano, she could be on stage, acting a charming coloratura. She got cheers.”

Author and photographer, Stephen Sorokoff adds, “The composer and lyricist were in attendance as their songs were performed by a wonderful group of cabaret artists. The convention even produced a 12 year old to recreate the emotions of seeing “Annie” as Zoe Gelman sang Maybe & NYC to the Rose Theater audience.”
